Teaching Responsibility

4.09.2013

Lately we have started making sure we give Baby Bear daily chores. Right now she only has three that are hers to do, but I am sure this list will grow as she does.

When I am emptying the dishwasher it is her job to put away all of the dishes (once i have removed the sharp knives). She feeds Piggy two to three times a day and then brings the bowl for us to to add hot water to it...Yes my dog is that spoiled. Sometimes we have her set the table. Plus she is responsible for cleaning her room up when she makes messes. Anyone who has children knows just how hard that last one is, but she has really gotten better at putting things where they go...and not just hiding everything under her desk.

I remember doing this when I was young, and I really think that doing this is so incredibly important at this age. We aren't to the point yet where she gets paid for chores. But I love that it teaches great responsibility. Then there is the sense of pride that she has when she is done with something and runs to show you or have you come look. There is nothing like seeing her face beam when you thank her and tell her you are proud of her.

Do any of you make your tots do chores? If so what are they?!?
