Crawling- We tried as hard as we could to get her to crawl. She seriously refused! Then one day when she was a little over 11 months old we took her to a birthday party for a 2 year old. There were other kiddos there. One of which was younger than S and crawling all over the place. Sydney watched him, and when we went home we set her down on the ground and started to put her stuff away. She literally took off crawling two seconds later. Not only did she start crawling, but she started crawling like a pro! It was as if she had been doing it for weeks!!!
Walking-The same went for walking. We would try daily to get her to walk to one of us. She might take a step or two and then she would plop down. We decided to continue to try it, but not be pushy with it.Then on December 10, 2010, she was almost 15 months old and we were moving our stuff into an apartment. We had just signed our lease and only had what would fit in our car with us, so we were moving our first load in. We walked in and set S down on the carpet. I turned around to put something on the counter and little S pulled up on a box and just took off. Once again she was walking like a pro! You would have thought she had been doing it for weeks!
Potty Training-Oh my gosh this one was a nightmare. We tried, and tried, and tried with potty training. I'm talking almost a year! We tried so many different things and in so many different ways. Then one day we were trying a new method and something just clicked and we started having next to no accidents. This is a process that took much longer, and we will still have a tiny accident once in a blue moon. But it's like one day something just clicked with her and she was ready to start really trying.
This is how she always seems to do things. This is her fashion. It's as if she watches and thinks about it for a really long time. Then she will do it once she is sure she can.
When S turned two we got her this tricycle. She loved it! But she had absolutely no idea on how to ride it. She would let you push her around for hours if you would, but she couldn't ride it! We moved up here and she still didn't know how. She would try sometimes, but eventually just moved the bike with her feet on the ground. As much as she loved that little red tricycle, she made it obvious that she wanted a real bike for Christmas. So we took a leap and we got her one. She loved it!!! She sat on it immediately, but once again couldn't pedal it. Then one day a week or so ago she climbed onto her new bike. She put her foot on the pedals and she took off. She started riding laps around our house like nobodies business. Within a day she was riding it faster than I would think her little legs could pedal.
It just goes to show that every kid truly is different. Every kid learns how to do something at their own rate, and in their own fashion. S has truly shown us this over and over and I have learned to just let her do it, and watch it all in awe!
