Watermarking

3.12.2012

I used to watermark photos and one day just got a little lazy and stopped.
Well, this morning I read this post from Becky and I have decided that I am going to start doing it again!
I wanted to add something to what Becky said though. I DO think that everyone should watermark their photos (you can do it for free at picmonkey). But I also think that there are other precautions that you can take in addition to doing this.

1. You can Right Click Disable your blog. If you click the link I posted a tutorial on how to do this in my blog design page.  Right click disable will make it to where nothing in your. This way nobody can just right click an image and save it to their computer.

2. You can go to your Picasa Web Albums page and make sure that all of your albums are set you private. Yes, you do have a picasa web albums account. Blogger automatically opens one when you open an account with them. This is where all of your photos are stored. You may also want to make sure you have plenty of space on your account.

3.  You can take your blog off of search engines. Some of you may not want to do this because then someone can't just find your blog without having your url. But to me, this was a step I thought I should take.

I am so sorry that Becky had to got through this. It definitely did open my eyes to the crazies that are out there though. I don't want to make my blog, or my daughter's blog, private. But I will take every possible step to protect them.
Thank you Becky for opening my eyes!

  1. Thanks friend! Just did steps 1 and 2 and will start watermarking! How frightening that people got to such extremes!

  3. That lady is seriously cookoo. I thought about disabling right clicking, BUT, if I add a link into a post, I want people to be able to right click and open in a new tab or window so I haven't done it yet.

  4. Thank you for this! I just did the "right click" thing. I know it's annoying for people BUT if they really want to, they can click, copy the link and open in a new window. My blog is to document my life, so my privacy trumps convenience, I think. I used to watermark then I stopped. I need to start again - just adds TIME.
