Tammy Is Here!!!

4.09.2012

Please welcome my dear friend Tammy from Tammyfantasyland while she takes over my little blog today. I think you are going to love her!

Hey everyone! I'm honored to be writing a post for Tiffany while she moves. I write a lil ole' blog over at Tammyfantasyland where I document our everyday life as we raise our sweet baby girl, Morgan. It's nothing too exciting, but I started it (just like many other bloggers out there) as a way to document my first pregnancy. I've kept it up as a way of maintining our memories because I'm just not going to be scrapbooking anytime soon, ha!
I am going to write about decorating a baby nursery -- NOT that I have a lot of experience -- or even that my existing nursery looks all that great. But, as mentioned, we have a 13-month old darling daughter and ANOTHER bambino on the way, due at the end of June. So I have another nursery to decorate, along with thinking about transitioning Morgan to a big girl room.
Us and "The Moo", who just turned 1 in February
We chose to not find out the sex of either of our babies. This makes it tough when it comes to designing a nursery. There are only so many ways you can go "Gender Neutral". I've seen some really cute ones though (just browse Pinterest if you need some inspiration! You can follow my nursery boards here if you want!)
The big thing I discovered though, after my first baby, was this: Once we found out we'd had a GIRL, I reeeaaaallly wanted to girly-up her nursery. Originally I started with a gray/aqua/ivory color combo. And then? I went crazy with hot pink. Needless to say, it doesn't exactly look perfect, but as we transition her to her toddler bed in the coming year, I plan to hang on to the teal/hot pink combo.
PS: Those hot pink lanterns?  Totally faded in the sunlight.  Just took them down last week :(  Something to remember if you put objects in front of the window.  And we keep the blinds shut pretty much all the time!

It's easy to go crazy, get carried away, and spend a TON of money...but it's just not necessary.  I've learned this time around what's important.  We decided, with both babies, we want their furniture to last them into their teen years.  So both cribs are capable of converting to a Toddler bed, then to a Full-size bed.  The dressers are sturdy and should hold up over the years.
As for the rocker - I've had a tough time with this.  We went ultra-cheap with Morgan's glider rocker...I think it was like $150 on sale from Kohl's.  It is NOT that comfortable and I hate the look of it, but it gets the job done.  When we no longer need it, we will get rid of it.  I LOVE the upholstered glider rockers that you can get at places like Pottery Barn, but NO WAY am I spending $1,000+ on a rocker that we will only use for a few years.  Oh, and you WILL get milk all over it ; )  So I've been scouring Craigslist and just keeping my eyes open.  Some people have suggested getting a regular chair, that rocks -- like something you'd see in a Living Room, that can be moved later on when it's no longer needed in the Baby's Room.  I like the idea of re-using it and it not going to waste.  But you border on being asked "Why do you have a baby rocker in your living room?"
As for Baby #2's nursery, it was formerly my Hubs's VERY messy office, and looked like this -- SCARY:
And after a weekend of cleaning it out, this is its current state:
We plan to paint because that faux-finish granny paint's gotta go!  I've just been undecided on which way to go with it. Again, I need to start out Gender-Neutral.  I'm thinking something really soft, soothing, calm, and clean, like this from my Pinboards:
I kindasorta like this bedding from Pottery Barn, but it doesn't make me super excited:
I also like this gray/white combo, but a lot of it's backordered til June.  (Which is fine, because another thing I learned is, the baby won't even sleep in the nursery for the first few months.  Baby #2 will be in our bedroom in a bassinet):
It's fun to think the nursery would be all completely decorated when we bring Baby home from the hospital, but for me personally, I like to see the baby first.  Determine HIS or HER personality a little bit...and add to it here and there.  It doesn't give me the instant gratification that I crave, but it's how I operate best.
I hope you have enjoyed this little peek into our nurseries (I get a kick out saying that word, plural, like we got a whole lotta babies over here, ha ha!)  Feel free to follow along as this 2nd Baby's room comes along...I will be posting pics as my pregnant motivation allows ; )

Yay! I love Tammy's taste when it comes to decorating! This was a great topic because Baby Bear's room is getting a makeover before long. That will be another post all together though.
I hope you loved her and will show her some lover over on her blog.
Tammy, you did great and you are more than welcome on this blog whenever you want! Maybe we can get a follow up post when Morgan's room goes to toddler room and baby #2's room is complete!
